Duties:Band 4:
The R/W Design Technician is responsible for performing a variety of technical and pre-professional drafting and design duties. Assigned work begins at the basic level and includes detailed instruction on what attributes need to be designed, data analysis and developing plan details.
Band 5:
Design responsibilities in this profile progress from mid to journey levels. Designer I is assigned work of analyzing data, developing design layouts, plan details and developing plan packages. Designer II identifies design objectives through research and analysis, and develops recommendations based on that information. Work involves gathering technical data from a variety of sources and integrating the information into a practical layout.
Band 6:
The R/W Designer interprets a compilation of data and prepares plans that may be unprecedented and innovative.

Education/Experience:Design Technician I – Band 4 level 1
High school degree or equivalent and some technical training or experience in drafting and technical
work in highway design, transportation planning, highway construction or traffic engineering.
Designer Technician II – Band 4 level 2
High school degree or equivalent and at least one year of technical training or experience in design
drafting technology that includes a working knowledge of computer aided drafting and design (CADD)
Designer I – Band 5 level 1
Combination of technical education and experience equivalent to four years in civil engineering
technology or design drafting including demonstrated experience using computer aided drafting and
design (CADD) software packages.
Designer II – Band 5 level 2
Combination of technical education and experience equivalent to five years in civil engineering
technology or design drafting that includes demonstrated experience using computer aided drafting and
design (CADD) software packages.
Designer III – Band 6
Combination of technical education and experience equivalent to eight years in civil engineering
technology or design drafting that includes demonstrated experience using computer aided drafting and CADD.
