DEQ Releases Proposed Plan for Final Cleanup of the Missoula White Pine Sash State Superfund Facility

February 28, 2014

Helena – The Montana Department of Environmental Quality today released a proposed plan for cleanup of the Missoula White Pine Sash State Superfund Facility in Missoula.

The public is encouraged to offer suggestions for improving the proposed cleanup measures, or to submit reasons to implement other alternatives for the project, at a 5:30 PM March 11 meeting at the Red Lion Inn, 700 W. Broadway in Missoula.

DEQ has identified the presence of substances at the facility that pose an unacceptable risk to human health and the environment. The plan offers a detailed explanation of DEQ’s preferred alternatives for addressing the cleanup of soil and groundwater at the facility.

This proposal and other information regarding the MWPS Facility can be found online at DEQ’s website, at the Cogswell Building (located at 1401 E. Lockey Street Room C-108 in Helena), and at the University of Montana Mansfield Library. The proposed plan is also available at the Missoula Public Library.

The final plan for cleaning up the Facility will be selected by DEQ after the Department considers each public comment submitted during the 30-day public comment period, which starts March 1, 2014 and ends March 30, 2014.
