DEQ Accepting Public Comments on Bull Mountain Coal Permit Expansion Application
Helena – The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is accepting comments on the acceptability of an application by Signal Peak Energy, LLC, to amend their operating permit for Bull Mountain Coal Mine # 1 in Roundup, Mont.
Signal Peak submitted Permit Application No. 3 on October 5, 2012. The company is proposing to increase the area of its mine permit for the underground coal mine by adding 7,161 acres and expanding the mine from five longwall panels to 14 longwall panels. The application includes approximately 20 acres of new surface disturbance and is a continuance of current mining activities.
The DEQ determined that the application was complete on December 14, 2012 and acceptable on September 3, 2013.
