DEQ Seeks Comments on Water Quality Plans for Missoula Area Watersheds


Helena -- The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is holding meetings to provide information and accept comments on water quality restoration plans for the Flat Creek watershed in the Superior area of Granite County and the Cramer and Wallace watersheds east of Clinton in Missoula County.

The plan, technically called the "Bonita-Superior Metals TMDLs", identifies water quality restoration goals for metals contamination from historical mining activities. In the Superior area, it links to the planned remediation work in the Flat Creek watershed. For the Cramer and Wallace watersheds, it provides information on the success of mine reclamation activity and potential next steps.

Public information meetings and open houses will be held March 18, 2013 in Missoula and Superior. The Missoula meeting will take place in the Public Library's board room, 301 E. Main Street, in Missoula, MT. A presentation will be given at 12 noon, followed by a question and answer session until 1:30 p.m. The Superior meeting will take place in the Commission Meeting Room, 300 River Street, in Superior. A presentation will be given at 3:00 p.m. followed by a question and answer session until 5:00 p.m.
