DEQ Accepting Public Comments on Northfork Stoneworks Bond Increase
Helena -- The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is accepting public comments on a proposal to increase the bond held by Northfork Stoneworks for their site located near Harlowton, MT in Wheatland County. The bond is currently set at $6,138.44.
The DEQ has completed a comprehensive review of the bond submitted by the company and has determined that the current bond does not represent the present costs of complying with the Metal Mine Reclamation Act, administrative rules adopted under the Act, and the permit. The department is proposing to increase the bond to $11,044. The proposed increase is due, in part, to increased costs since the last bond calculation and a revision in bonding methodology. The DEQ is required to issue a final bond determination within 30 days.
Comments on the proposed bond increase may be sent to Herb Rolfes, DEQ Environmental Management Bureau, P.O. Box 200901, 1520 E. Sixth Ave., Helena, MT 59620-0901, or by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. Comments must be received by November 2, 2012.
A copy of the bond calculations that form the basis for the proposed bond determination can be obtained by contacting Mr. Rolfes at the address above or by calling 406-444-3841. For more information about the Metal Mine Reclamation Act visit the DEQ website at www.deq.mt.gov.
