DEQ Accepting Public Comments on Willow Creek Talc Mine Bond Release
Helena -- The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and US Forest Service have received a request for full bond release for the Willow Creek Talc Mine located about 25 miles south of Alder, MT.
The Willow Creek Talc Mine is operated by the Southern Talc Company. The site is located in Madison County and consists of 320 acres, of which 115 were disturbed. The DEQ and the US Forest Service inspected the site on September 14, 2012 and believe the site has been properly reclaimed. The DEQ currently holds a total bond of $212,925. The agencies are proposing to release the total bond.
The DEQ may not release or decrease a reclamation bond until the public has been provided an opportunity for a hearing and a hearing has been held if requested. A request for a hearing on the proposed bond release must be submitted by November 2, 2012, to the postal or e-mail address below.
