DEQ Receives Application for Final Closure Plan for CR Kendall Mine
Helena – On July 25, 2012 the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) received an application from CR Kendall Corp. to amend their operating permit with a proposed final closure plan for the C.R. Kendall Mine. The mine is located on private land in Fergus County about eight miles west of Hilger and about 25 miles north of Lewistown, Montana.
The proposal addresses final capping and reseeding of the former process pads, final design and installation of water treatment facilities, and long-term reclamation monitoring and maintenance. The permit covers about 1,040 acres, with about 448 acres having been disturbed over the life of the mine. Many of the disturbed acres have already been regraded, the soil replaced, and then seeded.
The amendment application will be posted on DEQ’s web site at www.deq.mt.gov. For information on the proposed amendment, contact Herb Rolfes, Operating Permit Section Supervisor, DEQ Environmental Management Bureau, P.O. Box 200901, Helena, MT 59620-0901. Mr. Rolfes also can be reached at (406) 444-3841 or email@example.com.
