DEQ Seeks Comments on the Draft Lower Gallatin Planning Area Water Quality Improvement Plan
Helena -- The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has released the "Draft Lower Gallatin Planning Area TMDLs and Framework Water Quality Improvement Plan."
This document describes surface water quality problems in rivers and streams in the Lower Gallatin River watershed downstream of Gallatin Gateway and provides total maximum daily loads to help address these problems. The document also outlines a strategy for improving water quality in order to meet Montana’s water quality standards.
Public meetings will take place on September 12th from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at Gallatin County Courthouse, Bozeman, MT and on September 27th from 6:30 to 9:00 pm at the Manhattan Christian School, 8000 Churchill Rd, Manhattan, MT.
The draft document is available on the DEQ web site at http://deq.mt.gov/pubcom.mcpx. Copies are available at Bozeman, Manhattan, Belgrade public libraries, and the State Library in Helena. Public comments will be accepted until 5 p.m., October 6, 2012. Comments may be mailed to Montana Department of Environmental Quality, P.O. Box 200901, Helena, Montana 59620-0901, or submitted electronically at http://comment.cwaic.mt.gov.
