St. Labre Indian Educational Association Resolves Public Water Supply Violations
Helena --- The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has closed its administrative enforcement action against St. Labre Indian Educational Association for violations of Montana's Public Water Supply Laws that occurred at St. Charles School in Pryor, Montana.
In its September 1, 2010 administrative compliance and penalty order, DEQ cited St. Labre for its failure to monitor its public water supply system for volatile organic contaminants and nitrate during calendar years 2008 and 2009. State law requires owners and operators of public water supply systems to monitor their drinking water supplies for the presence of volatile organic contaminants. Public water supply system must also monitor for nitrate which can poses adverse health effects for infants less than six months of age and persons with specific health concerns.
St. Labre has returned to compliance by monitoring for volatile organic contaminants and nitrate and resolved the violations by paying a $917 administrative penalty.
