DEQ Issues Boil Water Order for White Sulphur Springs Public Water Supply
Helena – Severe weather and a suspected tornado destroyed the roof of the White Sulphur Springs drinking water storage tank and the filtration building last evening. As a result the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has issued a boil water order to protect public health due to the roof and debris that is in the storage tank.
City water operators are working with DEQ employees, consultants and technical assistance providers to prevent further contamination and damage to the tank and water distribution system.
Under the boil order, White Sulphur Springs residents are being advised to not drink the water without boiling it first for at least 1 minute or using bottled water as an alternative. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and preparing food until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.
Frequently asked questions about boil orders are available on the DEQ website at www.deq.mt.gov.
