DEQ Seeks Comments on Beaverhead Sediment Water Quality Plan
Helena -- The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is seeking comments from the public on its recently released Beaverhead Sediment Total Maximum Daily Loads and Framework Water Quality Protection Plan
In simple terms, a total maximum daily load (TMDL) is a plan to attain and maintain water quality standards in waters that are not currently meeting them. The waters not currently meeting water quality standards in the Beaverhead TMDL Planning Area have been identified and described in the Beaverhead Sediment Total Maximum Daily Loads and Framework Water Quality Protection Plan. The document also presents a draft plan to attain and maintain water quality standards in all of those waters considered impaired.
A public information meeting will be held on April 17th, 2012 at the Search and Rescue Building in Dillon (behind the National Guard Armory). The evening meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Agency representatives will provide an open house style forum to provide information about the document, answer questions, and engage in discussion. A poster session regarding the Beaverhead Sediment Total Maximum Daily Loads and Framework Water Quality Protection Plan will be held before the meeting from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the same location.
The draft document is available on the DEQ web site at www.deq.mt.gov. Copies are available at the Beaverhead Conservation District, Beaverhead Watershed Committee office, and also at the State Library in Helena, Montana. Public comments will be accepted until 5 p.m., May 9th, 2012 and may be submitted electronically at http://comment.cwaic.mt.gov or mailed to DEQ, P.O. Box 200901, Helena, MT 59620.
For more information, document availability or other questions, please contact Kristy Fortman, at (406)444-7425, or by e-mail at email@example.com. The DEQ will make reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities who wish to participate in this open house. If you require an accommodation, please contact Carrie Greeley at firstname.lastname@example.org or 406-444-6749 no later than 11:00 a.m., April 13, 2012 to advise us of the nature of the accommodation that you need.
