Classes and Testing Scheduled for Underground Storage Tank Professionals

Helena – The Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will hold a series of refresher classes and licensing tests in Helena for underground storage tank professionals. All classes will take place on February 23, 2012 from 8AM – 5PM at Jorgenson’s Inn & Suites in Helena, MT and tests will take place on February 24th at the Metcalf Building located at 1520 E Sixth Avenue in Helena, MT.

State law requires licensing of anyone who installs, closes, repairs, modifies or inspects underground storage tank systems, including underground piping connected to above-ground tanks. The law also requires licensing of anyone who installs corrosion protection, tank liners and external leak-detection equipment.

A refresher course for underground storage tank license holders will be held on Thursday February 23, 2012 for those that require continuing education credits (CEC’s). Individuals that have Remover only licenses who require continuing education credits must attend the afternoon session for underground storage tank installers from 1 PM to 5 PM on February 23. Installer/Remover and Compliance Inspector training will take place the same day from 8AM – 5PM. If you are currently licensed for underground storage tank work and taking Remover only training, you may choose to attend all trainings from 8am-5pm to earn 4 additional CEU's. The class is open to anyone who wishes to be licensed to inspect underground storage tank systems in Montana.

On Friday February 24, 2012, the DEQ will offer licensing tests for installer/removers, removers, installers of corrosion protection, tank liners and external leak-detection equipment. Written tests are open to all applicants for new licenses and to those who must retest to maintain current licenses.

All new applicants must pre-register and submit a $100 fee to the Department of Environmental Quality, Waste and Underground Tank Bureau, P.O. Box 200901, Helena, MT, 59620-0901. Application forms and more information are available on the DEQ web site at www.deq.mt.gov or from the Underground Storage Tank Section at 406-444-5300.

The DEQ will make reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities who wish to participate in this testing or who need an alternative accessible format of this notice.
