Comment Period is Extended for Troy Mine Revised Reclamation Plan Draft EIS


Helena – In response to requests made by members of the public, the Kootenai National Forest (KNF) and the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) have extended the comment period for the Troy Mine Revised Reclamation Plan Draft Environmental Impact Statement (Draft EIS) until Friday, August 5, 2011. Troy Mine, Inc. submitted the revised reclamation plan to update the current reclamation plan approved in 1978. The Troy Mine is located about 15 miles south of Troy, Montana.

The Draft EIS describes the land, people, and resources potentially affected by the Troy Mine, identifies a number of reclamation alternatives, and analyzes the potential impacts of the reclamation alternatives.

The agencies will respond to comments received in the Final EIS. Written comments must be postmarked, e-mailed, faxed or otherwise submitted by Friday, August 5, 2011. An electronic version of the Draft EIS is available on the internet at: and
